Fertilization

Lawn fertilization across San Diego County.

The difference between a dark-green thick lawn and a yellow-green thin one usually comes down to feeding schedule. We run four-step and six-step programs matched to your grass type — warm-season (Bermuda, St. Augustine, Zoysia) eats spring-through-fall, cool-season (fescue) eats fall and spring. Synthetic, organic, or hybrid.

What do homeowners ask about Fertilization?

How often should I fertilize my SD lawn?

Warm-season grasses (Bermuda, St. Augustine, Zoysia) — 4 to 6 feedings per year, heaviest April-August. Cool-season (tall fescue) — 4 feedings per year, heaviest September-November and March-April. Over-feeding wastes money and causes thatch. We schedule by grass type and soil test.

What about organic fertilizer?

Works well for most yards. Feather meal, alfalfa meal, and fish emulsion feed slower but build soil biology over time. Organic programs usually take 12-18 months to show full effect, so expect the first season to look similar and the second to jump.

Can I combine fertilization with weed control?

Yes — weed-and-feed products combine pre-emergent or post-emergent herbicide with fertilizer. We use them selectively since the timing does not always line up perfectly. Often better to treat fertilizer and weed control as separate visits on the right calendar.

Is a soil test really necessary?

On the first visit, yes. SD soils run alkaline (pH 7.2-8.0) in many inland areas, which locks out iron. A soil test takes the guessing out — if you are iron-deficient, feeding nitrogen without correcting pH is spitting into the wind.

How long until I see results?

Liquid iron — 3-5 days to visible green-up. Granular slow-release — 10-14 days for color, 3-4 weeks for thickening. Full program results compound over 2-3 seasons.

Homeowners who hired us for this

Switched to Bloom Pro after two years of inconsistent crews. Same team every Tuesday, the lawn looks consistently sharp, and they flagged a sprinkler leak we'd have missed. Flat rate, no surprise invoices.

Melissa R. Weekly Lawn Maintenance · Carlsbad

Got three quotes for a front-yard drought-tolerant conversion. Bloom Pro was the only one that showed me the MWD rebate math up front. They handled the paperwork and we got $2,400 back. Yard looks incredible and the water bill is half what it was.

David K. Drought-Tolerant Conversion · El Cajon

They redesigned our lighting for the whole front yard and walkway. Warm LED uplights on the palms, path lights that aren't blinding, all on a smart controller. The house feels completely different in the evenings now.
